The Junior School
Music, Drama & Sport
Music, Drama and Sport all play a very important part in the school life here in the Junior School.
MUSIC
We are proud of the reputation Junior School music has in the area. Music here is vibrant and all the girls enjoy two music lessons every week with music specialists, in addition to the many music clubs open to our pupils. Singing, music-making, musical appreciation, theory, composition and performing are all part of the curriculum.
Individual tuition is available in a wide range of instruments and girls are encouraged to join the choir, orchestra and other instrumental groups as their confidence grows.
We have an excellent Junior School orchestra, a recorder group, string and brass ensembles, Suzuki group, choir and other musical groups. Many girls achieve a very high standard and there are regular opportunities for girls to perform to an audience both in and out of school.
Select this link to hear the Junior Choir performing Catch Me If You Can. Please be patient whilst Quicktime loads, this will take approximately 15 seconds depending upon your connection.
“Music is in evidence around the school throughout the day, every day. Pupils obviously take delight in their music making, as does the staff.”

DRAMA
Drama is a wonderful way of building a child’s confidence and improving communication and presentation skills, and it is a highly valued part of the curriculum. Drama is taught throughout the school and is part of the weekly timetable and even the youngest in our community enjoy the excitement of appearing in dramatic productions whether they are class assemblies or end of term plays and concerts.
Speech and Drama lessons are available and many of our girls compete with great success at local Speech, Music and Drama Festivals as well as doing well in Speech and Drama examinations.

Burgess Hill School has an excellent reputation in sport and achieves success at local, county and national level in a number of different areas.
Physical education is a very important part of the curriculum and the girls have a P.E lesson on most days of the week. Lessons are taught by our specialist P.E teachers.
All girls in the Junior School participate in a wide variety of sports which includes gymnastics, dance, netball, hockey, rounders, swimming, tennis and athletics.
All these activities are used to encourage real sportsmanship, leadership skills, self esteem, team spirit, physical fitness as well as being fun.
There are many extra-curricular activities which offer further opportunities to enjoy sports, including those sports which do not feature as part of the curriculum.
