2005 - 2006 Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Centenary sell-out production of Jesus Christ SuperStar-A Rock Opera, by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, takes place this Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in the Croft Hall at 7.30pm. The cast of 60 draws on students from both Burgess Hill School and Worth School, and is part of the annual joint Arts Festival, which this year has ‘Justice’ as its theme. Jesus Christ SuperStar first exploded onto the stage in 1971 and it was clear from the start that the musical world would never be the same again. A dramatised version of the last seven days of Jesus' life told through the eyes of Judas is a fitting contribution to the festival theme. Burgess Hill School’s production is a modem version of this classic work and the impressive stage set offers an arresting and at times sombre reminder of the story. Nothing detracts from the infectious rhythms and tunes which have become so familiar to contemporary audiences.
The cast and crew’s hard work is evident in every minute of the production, and with this spectacular show director Emma Tarratt piles success on success, following her previous productions of Medea and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. “The cast, band and crew have been working hard since September to produce the biggest musical ever staged at Burgess Hill School for Girls. It’s been an adrenalin-pumping, heart-stopping, palm-sweating, gut-wrenching, amazingly exhilarating experience, and we are all so excited” said Emma Tarratt, Producer and Director. Other events to come in this year's Arts Festival include a debate at Worth School on the death penalty on Monday 13th March and a production of "Measure for Measure" at Worth on Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th and Friday 17th March. 9/3/06 |
