Presentation Evening 2007

On Friday 16th November, girls, parents and staff gathered at Burgess Hill School for Girls for the annual Presentation Evening. This traditional event is a celebration of the achievements of last year’s Year 11 and Upper Sixth students as they collect their GCSE and A-Level certificates and academic prizes. Their activities outside the classroom such as sport and music were also recognised and applauded. Almost all the girls attended, apart from those enjoying their new university lives in locations as diverse as Hong Kong and New Zealand. It is a great source of pride to the School that so many former pupils make the effort to return for this event.

This year, the girls were fortunate to have Marie-Noëlle Barton, MBE as the speaker. Marie-Noëlle has been campaigning for many years to encourage more girls to study Science subjects at university and has been Director of Women into Science and Engineering (WISE) for 20 years. As there were 17 girls from the U6th going on to study Science-related subjects this year, she seemed a particularly appropriate speaker for the evening. Her refreshingly light-hearted speech also held some relevant tips for the girls for their future lives and careers.

Afterwards, the girls had a chance to catch up with friends and share memories, and it certainly was a happy and proud evening for all the students.
