Construction Fun

More than ninety Year 9 students from Burgess Hill School for Girls and the Towers Convent were part of a special construction day. They were given the challenge of creating their own version of an Eden Project by designing a new visitor centre for Sussex, using only tubes of rolled paper, nuts and bolts. The day was funded by CITB Construction Skills, an Education and Training body which aims to promote the construction industry, particularly to young women. The day was delivered by John Allen from Input, an organisation which aims to support the development of the next generation of highly qualified science and technology personnel whilst presenting a positive and dynamic view of engineering.

During the morning the groups designed and built their new centre and then in the afternoon presented their ideas, structures and proposed budgets to the other groups. The event was hosted by Burgess Hill School for Girls. The girls enjoyed the challenge of working together, learning new things and meeting new people from another school.
