Burgess Hill Sports Tour - Vancouver 2008
The Burgess Hill School sports tour set off on Easter Saturday for a two week adventure in Vancouver, British Colombia. The itinerary was action packed with the girls playing five hockey games, two netball games and a netball tournament, with an added attraction of three days skiing in Whistler Ski Resort. The games were very competitive with all sides showing great flair, speed and endurance. Overall in hockey, the girls won two and lost three games, whilst in netball they won four, drew two and lost two matches. The girls learnt from their international experience that fitness and strength are two key areas where further improvement would lead to better performance.
In between the matches the girls took the opportunity to do some sightseeing with some notable highlights including a bike ride in Stanley Park, a visit to the Public Markets on Granville Island, a bus tour around Victoria, Whale watching and of course shopping in American Eagle Outfitters!
The three days skiing in Whistler were truly amazing and we all realize now why it is considered the best resort in the world! The two mountains of the resort are Whistler and Blackcomb which are huge and you never seemed to ski the same run more than once. It snowed heavily for three days but the deep snow was a dream to ski on, both on and off the piste! The self catering apartments were very accommodating and proved to be most amusing with the girls cooking Spaghetti Bolognese, Stir Fry and Pizzas.
We would like to thank all our host families for their wonderful hospitality. We found everyone so friendly and have created strong international links for the future, as well as new friends. The girls showed excellent teamwork throughout the trip, which is a testament to their character, leadership, communication skills, initiative and positive attitude. The whole experience was most rewarding and Tour plans have started for 2010.
